Germany secured a 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast in their second group stage match of the 2026 World Cup. Forward Deniz Undav was the decisive figure, scoring a brace after entering the game as a substitute.
Undav has now scored in both of his tournament appearances, having previously found the net against Curacao (7-1) in the opening round. This feat makes him only the fourth player in World Cup history to score in each of his first two tournament games while coming off the bench. He joins the ranks of Ricardo Pelaez (1998), Memphis Depay (2014), and Alvaro Morata (2022).
Furthermore, Undav is the first player to score in both of his first two matches for Germany at a World Cup since Miroslav Klose achieved the same milestone in 2002.
