Marko Stamenic: Swansea City midfielder finds love for football again

Swansea City midfielder Marko Stamenic has credited the people around his club with helping him rediscover his love for football. The 24-year-old endured a traumatic year following the sudden death of his father, Nikola, whom he describes as the main figure in his development as a player.

Reflecting on a year of significant ups and downs, Stamenic admits that while the challenges were often personal and off the field, the support system at the club was instrumental. He notes that his teammates and staff provided the necessary space and conversations to help him navigate the hurdle, allowing him to return to his best form.

This summer, Stamenic also experienced the World Cup, a tournament he once watched as a child alongside his father. While the New Zealand side exited in the group stages, the experience was described as amazing and served as a bridge back to his daily life as a professional footballer.

Stamenic has since returned to action, impressing in Swansea's league opener against Stoke City last weekend. After a period of frequent club changes, including spells at Red Star Belgrade and Olympiakos, he feels a sense of stability at Swansea and is ready to take the next step in his career.

Looking ahead, Stamenic and his teammates have set their sights on promotion to the Premier League. He has also been instrumental in helping new signings, including international teammate Elijah Just, settle into the squad under the guidance of Vitor Matos.
