FIFA has confirmed a series of sanctions against Argentina following the mass altercation that occurred after their World Cup final defeat to Spain. The global governing body launched an investigation in July into the unsavory scenes that took place as Spain celebrated their 1-0 extra-time victory.

Midfielder Leandro Paredes has been handed the heaviest punishment, receiving a 10-match ban for his role in the fracas. Defender Nahuel Molina was suspended for seven matches, while attacking midfielder Thiago Almada received a one-match ban. Team official Roberto Ayala was also suspended for three matches.

Spain's Gavi is the only member of the Spanish squad to face sanctions, receiving a one-match suspension and a fine. The suspensions apply strictly to international matches and do not impact the players' club commitments.

Additionally, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) was fined $310,000 and ordered to close 50 percent of its stadium seating for the next two home matches. These penalties address issues regarding fan behavior, including discrimination and the use of the event for non-sporting demonstrations related to a banner displayed during the tournament.
