UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has disagreed with England manager Thomas Tuchel's suggestion that children should be allowed to miss school following the World Cup round of 16 match against Mexico.

The match will be played at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 AM British time. Tuchel had previously joked during a press conference that parents should let their children watch the decisive game, even if it meant missing school the following morning.

A spokesperson for the Prime Minister stated that while the decision rests with parents, the government's stance is that children should attend school on Monday. Education Secretary Jacqui Smith suggested an alternative for those wanting to watch the late game, advising fans to simply take a nap during the day to stay alert.

The government has also dismissed calls for a special bank holiday on Monday despite a campaign from supporters. However, the possibility of a national holiday has not been entirely ruled out, with Starmer previously hinting he might consider the measure if England wins the World Cup.
