Crystal Palace have made their stance clear regarding the future of midfielder Adam Wharton, rejecting an official enquiry from Manchester City. The Premier League champions have been exploring midfield options following Rodri's high-profile departure to Barcelona, but Palace chiefs immediately shut down the approach, insisting their prized asset is unavailable.
The 22-year-old, who joined from Blackburn Rovers in 2024 for £22.5m, remains under contract until 2029. New Palace manager Pierre Sage has strongly backed the England international to continue his development in south London for the upcoming campaign.
Now is not the moment to do that. I think he is able to play for another club, a big club here or anywhere in Europe. But I think one year with us, one year with a new dynamic will be good for him. We need him and that’s why I think he will stay with us. Pierre Sage
Wharton has enjoyed a meteoric rise, playing a key role in Palace's recent success, including lifting the FA Cup in 2024–25 and the UEFA Conference League in 2025–26. With the club standing firm on their valuation, the midfielder is expected to focus entirely on his duties at Selhurst Park, ensuring the core of the squad remains intact as the transfer window approaches its conclusion.
