Cristiano Ronaldo has rewritten the history books once again. During Portugal's match against Uzbekistan at the 2026 World Cup, the 41-year-old forward opened the scoring, becoming the first player in football history to score in six different editions of the tournament.
Entering the match, the Portuguese captain held the record of scoring in five consecutive editions (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022). By finding the net in North America, he has set a new benchmark for longevity in the sport.
This achievement cements his place at the top of the global football pantheon. While legends like Pelé, Klose, and Uwe Seeler scored in four editions, and Lionel Messi has reached the mark of five, Ronaldo now stands alone as the only player to score in six separate World Cups.
Following this milestone, the Portuguese national team is shifting its focus to the remainder of the group stage. The squad is now preparing for upcoming matches as they aim to secure their place in the knockout rounds of the tournament.
