Viral 2010 Germany World Cup photoshoot resurfaces online

A photoshoot performed by the Germany national team ahead of the 2010 World Cup has regained traction on social media. Produced to promote the team's participation in the South African tournament, the images feature players styled with body paint inspired by African wildlife and cultural elements of the host nation.
The concept was based on the "Big Five"—the lion, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros, and leopard—which are symbols of African safaris. The squad members involved included Manuel Neuer, who was portrayed as a Masai warrior, alongside Sami Khedira, Toni Kroos, Mesut Özil, and Miroslav Klose.
In a recent interview with RTL Sport, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer commented on the project, acknowledging that the material stands out for its unusual appearance. He noted that the team has evolved significantly since then, and modern media engagements are typically more conventional.
On the pitch, the 2010 German side, coached by Joachim Löw, had a highly successful campaign. After topping their group, they impressed with dominant victories over England and Argentina before finishing third overall. The core group of players featured in the photoshoot eventually went on to secure the World Cup title four years later in 2014.
