England manager Thomas Tuchel has made a lighthearted plea to parents ahead of the team's World Cup Round of 16 clash against Mexico. With the match at the Estadio Azteca kicking off late at night for British viewers, the coach suggested that school attendance should take a backseat for the sake of the tournament.
"Write an excuse note and let the children watch. There is plenty of school ahead, but the World Cup only happens every four years. We need everyone's support, especially the children," Tuchel said.
Beyond the humorous request, Tuchel addressed the significant physical challenge facing his squad. He admitted that the England team will be at a disadvantage due to the altitude of Mexico City. He noted that the squad lacks sufficient time to adapt to the conditions, unlike the Mexican side, which has already played multiple matches at the venue.
Tuchel also dismissed concerns that the pressure of the tournament is weighing heavily on his players following their victory over DR Congo. He stated that the squad appears ready and focused for the test that awaits them against the tournament hosts.
