Emilio Azcárraga considers Mexico potentially hosting World Cup again
The Club América owner believes Mexico could explore a bid for the 2038 World Cup following the experience of organizing the 2026 tournament.

Emilio Azcárraga Jean, owner of Club América, has suggested that Mexico could explore the possibility of submitting a bid to host the FIFA World Cup again in 2038. Building on the experience of organizing the 2026 tournament, the businessman believes the country is capable of aspiring to host the event for a fourth time.
Azcárraga noted that while the rotation of host venues between confederations previously limited the possibility of a solo Mexican bid, changes in the way international tournaments are organized make it worth re-evaluating the options. He emphasized that the 12-year window until 2038 provides sufficient time for long-term planning and infrastructure development.
There is no country that does not want to host a World Cup... I don't see 2038 as far-fetched. I used to see it differently due to confederation rotation rules, but now that confederations are working together, I think it is worth exploring. Emilio Azcárraga
Organizing a World Cup requires significant preparation, including an analysis of stadiums, urban infrastructure, and connectivity. Azcárraga, who was involved in the 2026 bidding process, stressed that Mexico must apply lessons learned from previous tournaments to ensure a successful project. He advocates for proactive communication within FIFA to learn from past errors and improve future competitions.
