The Netherlands national team has made history by setting a new all-time record for the longest unbeaten run in World Cup history. Their commanding 5-1 victory over Sweden in the second round of the 2026 World Cup marked their 14th consecutive match without a defeat in regulation or extra time.
This impressive streak, which excludes results decided by penalty shootouts, dates back to the 2014 tournament in Brazil. During that period, the team secured victories over opponents such as Spain, Australia, Chile, and Mexico, while remaining undefeated against Costa Rica and Argentina.
The momentum continued through the 2022 World Cup, where the Dutch side remained unbeaten against Senegal, Ecuador, Qatar, the USA, and Argentina. Their performance at the 2026 tournament has further cemented their legacy; following a draw with Japan and the dominant win against Sweden, the Netherlands now stand alone as the record holders for consecutive unbeaten games at the World Cup.
