Monaco set to part ways with head coach Sébastien Pocognoli
Monaco management is considering parting ways with the Belgian coach after the team failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Sébastien Pocognoli is unlikely to continue as the head coach of Monaco next season. While no final decision has been made by club president Dmitry Rybolovlev, the departure of the 38-year-old Belgian tactician appears to be the most probable outcome after several days of reflection, confirming reports from Nice-Matin.
Pocognoli arrived at the club in October to replace Adi Hütter after a difficult start to the season. Despite a promising mid-season run that saw the team remain unbeaten in ten consecutive Ligue 1 matches, Monaco's form dipped significantly in the final stretch. A difficult period between April 10 and May 17 left the team without a chance to secure a spot in the Champions League.
That matters because the failure to qualify for the premier European competition is the primary driver for the club's potential coaching change. Although the season did not meet high expectations, Monaco has secured a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifiers, thanks to Lens winning the Coupe de France.
Next, the club is expected to finalize its decision regarding the managerial position before beginning preparations for the upcoming season and the European qualification campaign.
