Coventry City have been dealt a major injury blow ahead of their return to the Premier League. Manager Frank Lampard confirmed that striker Haji Wright will be sidelined for up to three months with a serious quad injury.

The setback keeps the 28-year-old out of contention for Friday's season opener against Arsenal. Wright was instrumental in Coventry's promotion campaign last season, netting 17 goals to lead the side to the Championship title.

Haji Wright won’t be available for the Arsenal game. He won’t be available for a little while; he’s got a very serious quad injury which is disappointing for Haji and for us. It’s certainly going to be a number of weeks - could even be up to 12 weeks. Frank Lampard

In response to the injury, Coventry have moved quickly in the market to bolster their attacking options. The club has added Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest for £9 million, alongside the arrival of Sidiki Cherif from Fenerbahce.

The club has been aggressive this summer, breaking their transfer record four times, including the £23.1m signing of midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi. While Wright begins an intensive rehabilitation program, Lampard has not ruled out making further additions before the transfer deadline on August 31.
