Arsenal title parade: 16 arrests and 75 fans rescued
Police made 16 arrests and the Fire Brigade rescued 75 fans from dangerous spots as Arsenal celebrated their first Premier League title in 22 years.
Arsenal's celebration of their first Premier League title in 22 years was marred by significant safety concerns. The London Fire Brigade confirmed they rescued approximately 75 people who had scaled trees, traffic lights, and rooftops to get a better view of the open-top bus carrying Mikel Arteta and his squad.
The festivities were further disrupted by the reckless use of pyrotechnics. A stray flare ignited a fire at a local hotel, causing exterior damage, while others triggered alarms across the area. First responders urged supporters to avoid using such devices in crowded spaces or near flammable materials.
The Metropolitan Police deployed over 500 officers to manage the massive crowds around the Emirates Stadium. By 9pm, authorities confirmed 16 arrests for offences including drunk and disorderly behaviour, drugs, sexual assault, and assaulting emergency workers. A more serious incident occurred on Hornsey Road after 8.30pm, where a man was stabbed and subsequently hospitalised.
While officials noted that many fans celebrated the historic achievement safely, the scale of the disruption was immense. Police maintained a heavy presence at major transport hubs as the crowds finally dispersed, marking the end of a chaotic evening that followed the club's first league crown since the 'Invincibles' era.
