Former Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney has opened up about his managerial career, admitting that he harbours significant regrets and currently has no intention of returning to the dugout.

Rooney's coaching path has been turbulent, spanning stints at Derby County, DC United, Birmingham City, and most recently Plymouth Argyle. Reflecting on his time in management, he pointed to his tenure at Birmingham as his biggest regret, specifically citing the timing of his arrival.

You always have regrets, and I reflect on what I've done. I think the biggest regret I have is the Birmingham City job, in terms of the timing of when I took over from John Eustace. Wayne Rooney

When asked about the possibility of a comeback, the 40-year-old was clear about his current mindset. While he noted that he would "never say never," he stated that he currently does not see himself accepting another managerial role.

Rooney is currently working as a pundit for the 2026 World Cup. Although he previously expressed interest in a coaching role at Manchester United under Michael Carrick, his current stance suggests he is stepping away from the pressures of club management for the foreseeable future.
