Wayne Rooney is a man of his word. During the World Cup Round of 16, the former England striker pledged to row down the River Mersey if Norway beat Brazil. Following Norway's 2-1 victory over the five-time champions, Rooney confirmed he would honor the bet, opting to take on the challenge on the Hudson River in New York instead.
Joined by fellow BBC Sport pundits Joe Hart and Micah Richards, Rooney swapped his microphone for an oar. The trio took to the water, with Rooney later describing the experience as enjoyable and a show of respect for the fans who made the viking row a viral sensation during the tournament.
The challenge even caught the attention of Norway striker Erling Haaland, who had publicly urged Rooney to follow through on his promise. Having completed the rowing trip, the punditry team is now set to return to dry land to provide coverage for the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.
