São Paulo settles debt with Lazio over Marcos Antônio transfer
The Brazilian club has cleared its outstanding balance for the former Shakhtar midfielder, paving the way for the FIFA transfer ban to be lifted.
São Paulo has successfully settled its outstanding financial obligations to Lazio regarding the transfer of midfielder Marcos Antônio. According to reports from ESPN, the Brazilian club paid off the remaining debt of seven million Brazilian reais, approximately 961,000 euros, earlier this week.
This payment represents a portion of the total transfer fee, which was valued at 4.2 million euros. Marcos Antônio is well-known to fans of Shakhtar Donetsk, having spent three seasons in Ukraine between 2019 and 2022, where he registered 98 appearances and contributed nine goals.
Following the payment, the club's leadership submitted a formal request to FIFA to lift the transfer ban that has prevented them from registering new players. The registration of recruits, including Domingos Duarte and Yago Borduchi, is currently on hold. The club expects the ban to be officially rescinded by the end of the week.
