20-year-old PSG midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery has unexpectedly become a valuable option for France in the final stages of the 2026 World Cup. After spending the first five matches on the bench, he was given his chance in the quarterfinal victory over Morocco.
Replacing Manu Koné, the young midfielder played for about 20 minutes, impressing with his intensity and ball-winning ability in the center of the pitch. His performance helped the team secure a 2-0 win and advance to the next stage.
Head coach Didier Deschamps praised the youngster's contribution, suggesting he is fully prepared to be called upon again. This debut became particularly significant due to the injury of Aurélien Tchouaméni, which has opened up new tactical possibilities in the French midfield.
«These are always special moments, memories that mark a career. It is an exceptional season for me. There is only joy, happiness, and smiles,» said Warren Zaïre-Emery.
The successful cameo has strengthened Zaïre-Emery's position as a key alternative for Didier Deschamps throughout the remainder of the World Cup, with the semifinal match against Spain scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, in Dallas.
