Real Madrid and Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has officially become a minority investor in Belgian club Genk. The investment was made through the NXTPLAY platform, of which the footballer is a co-founder.

The deal was confirmed during the club's general assembly. For Genk, this marks the first time an external shareholder has joined since the club underwent a significant management restructuring and created a dedicated football company in early 2026. Based in Madrid, NXTPLAY focuses on sports, media, and technology projects, with the Belgian side set to become its primary football asset.

Beyond the capital injection—which the club aims to use to raise up to 60 million euros over the coming years—Courtois will secure a seat on the board of directors. This will allow him to participate in the strategic development of the club where he began his footballing journey.

Simultaneously, the club announced a contract extension for sporting director Dimitri de Conde until 2035, signaling a commitment to a long-term project. Courtois himself is a product of the Genk academy and played for the senior team between 2008 and 2011 before embarking on his international career.
