Portuguese coach João Mota offers insight into Jordan and Congo teams
João Mota, who coached in Jordan and Congo, analyzes the tactical profiles of both national teams at the 2026 World Cup.

Portuguese manager João Mota, currently in charge of Al Yarmouk in Kuwait, holds a unique professional background having coached in countries currently competing on the world stage. Having spent two seasons in Jordan with Al Hussein, Mota maintains a connection with the current national squad, whose players he helped develop during his tenure.
Regarding Jordan, Mota highlights their dangerous offensive transitions. "They are a team of very fast transitions, but they are also a predictable team. If the opponent quickly realizes the game plan, they will be able to neutralize it and find ways to win," the coach explained.
As for the Congo, where Mota also gained experience, he notes the side's impressive physicality. He points out that their best players are currently based abroad and that their tactical approach differs significantly from many other African teams.
Working in the Congo was the most difficult period of my career. We had to teach them how to defend properly, as their style was based on intense aggression. João Mota
Looking at the wider tournament, Mota identifies Brazil, Germany, Spain, and France as the primary contenders. He expressed some skepticism regarding the current strength of Argentina compared to their 2022 performance.
