Former Liverpool and Club Brugge goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has become an increasingly influential figure within the Belgian Football Association (KBVB). Having retired from professional football, the 38-year-old has stepped into a management role focused on safeguarding the national sporting vision across all youth levels.
Mignolet works alongside Belgium head coach Mark van Bommel, providing a strategic bridge between administrative policy and pitch performance. The pair have been spotted scouting talent together, reflecting their collaborative relationship.

Unlike many peers, Mignolet bypassed traditional coaching courses to focus on sports administration. Holding a degree in political science and having completed technical director courses, he brings a rare combination of elite playing experience and academic qualification to international football governance.
As internal restructuring continues at the Belgian association, Mignolet’s administrative influence is expected to grow. He currently remains focused on supporting Van Bommel’s first-team ambitions while simultaneously shaping the development of junior squads.
