Midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has officially put an end to speculation regarding his international future, confirming his commitment to the Belgium national team. The 35-year-old Napoli player stated that he never seriously considered retiring after the World Cup and remains motivated to continue, with Euro 2028 set as a potential long-term goal.
De Bruyne shared positive impressions following a meeting with new head coach Mark van Bommel in Naples. The playmaker appreciated the Dutchman's direct communication style and tactical clarity, noting that it aligns well with his own expectations for the team.
"A typical Dutchman," De Bruyne laughed regarding Van Bommel. "Quite direct in his demeanour. That suits me well, just someone who says it like it is. Van Bommel asked me what I wanted to do. I told him that I was here to help him." Kevin De Bruyne
The veteran midfielder credited his teammates for encouraging him to stay, noting that younger squad members specifically requested his continued leadership. He also expressed satisfaction with his current fitness levels at Napoli, which have fueled his desire to keep competing at the highest level.
Entering a transitional phase, De Bruyne emphasized the need to guide the next generation. With 124 caps to his name, he aims to prevent a leadership vacuum as the team prepares for upcoming Nations League fixtures against France, Italy, and Turkey, helping young players adapt to the pressure of carrying the squad.
