England defender Lucy Bronze, who is known for leaving top clubs once her contract expires, has made the rare decision to sign a 12-month extension with Chelsea. Throughout her career, she has played for European giants like Manchester City, Lyon, and Barcelona, typically moving on to new challenges as soon as her time was up.
Bronze explained that her choice was driven by a sense of belonging and finding a comfortable rhythm in London. "I'm always very clear on the decisions I make – I'm very headstrong. I feel at home in the area and I'm so settled," she said. She added that even if the current situation at a club isn't perfect, she is committed to making it the best it can be.
The 2025-26 season was a challenging one for Chelsea under manager Sonia Bompastor, with the team finishing third in the Women's Super League and exiting the Champions League in the quarter-finals against Arsenal. Despite these hurdles, the veteran defender sees value in her role as one of the oldest players in a squad filled with young talent.
Looking ahead, a major goal for the 34-year-old remains international success. Bronze is focused on helping England qualify for the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil. "Everybody knows that playing for England means the world to me," Bronze stated. "I just want to win it with England."
