Canada's World Cup campaign ended in disappointment following a 3-0 defeat to Morocco, but head coach Jesse Marsch remained defiant, insisting his team were the superior side for large portions of the match.
We were the better team. They made a couple more plays than us, but cranking up the intensity was not the issue. It was just that they had a little bit of quality in the final third, and we lacked a little ability to make a play when we needed to. Jesse Marsch
Marsch praised his side's proactive philosophy, noting that he would rather be in Canada's position—developing an aggressive, forward-thinking identity—than relying on a purely defensive approach. He emphasized that despite the scoreline, the experience was a vital step in the team's ongoing development.
A major talking point was the continued absence of talisman Alphonso Davies. The Bayern Munich star had been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury in the Champions League semi-final against PSG in May. Marsch explained that while both the player and staff were eager for him to return, Davies did not feel confident in his body during the lead-up to the knockout clash, forcing the team to prioritize his long-term health.
Ultimately, Davies was limited to just 15 minutes of play during the entire tournament, coming on in the round of 32 against South Africa. For the co-hosts, the exit marks the end of a campaign where they hoped their star player would play a central role on home soil.
