The Premier League is facing significant financial pressure. According to a new annual review by Deloitte, the combined pre-tax losses of England's top-flight clubs have increased by more than 600% in just one season.

Losses soared from £135 million in the 2023-2024 season to £948 million (approximately €1.1 billion) in 2024-2025. Analysts attribute this spike primarily to aggressive transfer market spending and a lack of significant profit from player sales.

The situation in England stands out, though French Ligue 1 clubs also saw losses climb from €181 million to €456 million over the same period. While the overall European football market grew by 6% to €40.2 billion, driven by changes in UEFA competitions, Deloitte experts warn that adding more fixtures is not a sustainable path for long-term growth.
