Following two remarkable years that saw Le Mans climb from the National league to Ligue 1, manager Patrick Videira has officially kicked off preparations for the new season. For the club, which hasn't featured in the top flight since 2010, this return marks a significant milestone.
"It's like the first day of school. I told the boys that last year our goal was to reach Ligue 1, now our task is to become a Ligue 1 team," stated the 49-year-old manager, who recently extended his contract until 2029.
Videira is focusing on the mental strength of his group. Despite most of his players having no top-flight experience, the coach remains optimistic: "There is no anxiety here, just a lot of happiness and hard work. We know it will be very tough in Ligue 1, but we will do everything to ensure we have no regrets."
Regarding squad building, the coach is looking to sign seven to eight new players. He is targeting central defenders, wing-backs, a relay midfielder, and two forwards. Videira is not chasing big-name veterans; instead, he wants players who embody the club's values and are ready to contribute to a collective project.
Le Mans' preseason includes six friendly matches before their Ligue 1 opener against Brest in late August. Alongside the on-pitch challenges, the club is undergoing leadership changes, with Pedro Oliveira succeeding Thierry Gomez as president, and a revamped technical staff supporting Videira.
