Following a disappointing loan spell at AC Milan, the future of Niclas Füllkrug remains in the balance. Reports suggest the 33-year-old West Ham United striker could be set for a return to Serie A, with Lazio currently exploring a potential deal.
The Italian side is on the lookout for a cost-effective option to bolster their attacking options and has identified Füllkrug as a target. West Ham appear willing to part ways with the forward, as he is not part of their long-term plans, and are reportedly open to either a permanent sale or another loan agreement.
Füllkrug's previous campaign was a struggle. His move to Milan was intended to help him secure a spot in the Germany squad for the World Cup, but he managed only one goal in 20 competitive appearances. Consequently, he was left out of the national team selection for the tournament held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Any move to Italy hinges on the financial aspects of the deal. The player would likely need to accept a pay cut from his current salary at West Ham, which is estimated at around €5.6 million annually. Werder Bremen were also previously linked with a move for their former player, but the club quickly ruled out a return due to the financial demands.
