Valencia secured a narrow 1-0 away victory against Elche in the 11th round of La Liga. The decisive moment at the Martinez Valero stadium came in the second half, courtesy of striker Umar Sadiq.
The Nigerian forward, who had been sidelined for seven matches with an injury, came on as a substitute for Pablo Maffeo and found the back of the net in the 69th minute. The goal proved to be the difference in a tightly contested match.
This result marks a significant milestone for Javier Aguirre, as it is his first victory at the helm of Valencia in his fourth match in charge. Despite the win, Valencia remains in the lower part of the standings with nine points, but the three points provide a much-needed boost in their survival campaign.
For Elche, the defeat is their first since mid-September. Martin Anselmi’s side remains on ten points, sitting in 17th place, ahead of Levante only on goal difference.
Looking ahead, Valencia faces a major challenge in the next round as they host Real Madrid on November 7th, while Elche will take on Real Betis on November 8th.
