Following a 2-1 victory over Parma in the eighth round of Serie A, Lazio has moved to the top of the table, level on points with reigning champions Inter. Despite the strong start to the campaign, head coach Gennaro Gattuso remains cautious about his team's standing.
In the first half, we were too slow and made a few defensive mistakes. After the break, we improved the quality of our play—particularly Sutalo, who played much better—and managed to score while preventing the opponent from countering. Gennaro Gattuso
Gattuso highlighted that the team is showing improved confidence and composure throughout full matches. The coach emphasized the impact of substitutes, calling them his "secret weapon" given the team's current schedule of playing just once a week.
We shouldn't look at the league table; we need to take it one game at a time. When we reach 40 points, then we can think about something more. For now, we are in the trenches and must continue to work. Gennaro Gattuso
The coach recalled that two months ago, the team was eliminated from the Coppa Italia by a Serie B side, which led to widespread criticism. Currently, Gattuso's strategy relies on intense training sessions balanced with sufficient recovery time, which he believes gives his squad a competitive advantage.
