John Terry consortium takeover of Colchester United collapses
Colchester United has confirmed that the planned takeover by a consortium including John Terry has fallen through.
A proposed takeover of Colchester United by a consortium featuring former Chelsea and England defender John Terry has collapsed. The club has officially confirmed that discussions regarding the potential acquisition have ended.
Club owner Robbie Cowling, who previously indicated he was seeking an owner with "deeper pockets" to take the club forward, stated that both parties agreed not to proceed with the transaction. The decision was reached amicably following an extended period of due diligence.
Reports had suggested the consortium led by Terry had offered £14 million to acquire the club. The former defender was spotted at the Jobserve Community Stadium in April, observing the team's victory over Accrington Stanley.
This marks the latest failed attempt to sell the club. Previous negotiations with the US-based Lightwell Sports Group fell through last June, and a separate group involving former Brazil forward Alexandre Pato also withdrew from talks earlier this year.
