Chelsea are preparing to reward forward Joao Pedro with a new contract. The club aims to secure the future of the 24-year-old, who has become a focal point of their attack, following strong interest from Barcelona.
The Brazilian joined the Blues from Brighton last summer in a deal worth over £50 million, signing a seven-year contract that runs until 2032. Despite having several years left on his current agreement, the club is ready to offer improved terms to reflect his rapid development and status within the squad.
Joao Pedro made an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge, recording 23 goals and 9 assists in 53 appearances. His performance was rewarded with the club's player of the season title by The Athletic. Speaking about his debut campaign in London, the forward noted the scale of the challenge:
I am extremely happy. I think it was one of the best seasons of my life. I think the expectations of me were high, so I always try to keep my mindset moving forward to help my team-mates. Joao Pedro
Chelsea acknowledged that European rivals were monitoring the forward's situation as early as June. Consequently, the club has placed him on a list of players they consider non-transferable this summer, prioritizing his long-term presence at the club over any potential inquiries.
