FIFA invites Russia to participate in U-15 World Cup
Russia is set to return to an official international football competition for the first time in five years following an invitation from FIFA for the U-15 World Cup.

FIFA has officially invited the Russian national team to participate in the upcoming U-15 World Cup. The tournament, which will be held in Azerbaijan, marks the first time a Russian team will appear in an official international competition under the FIFA umbrella in five years.
In a statement, FIFA justified the invitation by noting that Russia remains an affiliate of UEFA and has never ceased to be recognized as such by the European governing body. The organization highlighted that the selection of Azerbaijan as the host was based on its high-quality sports infrastructure, capable of accommodating numerous participating youth teams.
This development signifies a shift for Russian football, which had been excluded from all FIFA and UEFA competitions since 2021 due to the ongoing conflict. During this period, Russian athletes and teams were barred from international events, including European club competitions and Olympic tournaments.
Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev described the move as an important step toward the return of Russian teams to international sports. The potential for further participation in official tournaments will depend on how this return is managed between the Russian Federation and FIFA.
