UEFA threatens FIFA World Cup boycott over Infantino plans
All 55 UEFA member associations have unanimously rejected FIFA's plans to sell commercial rights to the World Cup to private investors.

UEFA and its 55 national associations have reached a unanimous conclusion to implement unprecedented measures against FIFA president Gianni Infantino. Following an emergency meeting, the European football governing body has declared that its members will not participate in FIFA competitions unless controversial plans regarding the World Cup are abandoned.
The tension stems from FIFA's proposal to place the commercial rights of the World Cup into a new entity, "FIFA Forward Enterprise," allowing external private investors to acquire a stake. FIFA has reportedly offered a 40 million dollar payment to each of its 211 member associations if they approve the proposal by September 19.
In a forceful official statement, UEFA declared, "The World Cup cannot be treated as an investment product. It is one of football's greatest sporting legacies and it is not for sale." The organisation condemned the move as a "profound failure of leadership" and a betrayal of FIFA's role as the guardian of the sport, noting that the proposal was developed in secret without meaningful consultation.
With all 55 UEFA nations now aligned in favor of a boycott, the proposal faces a massive hurdle. UEFA has framed the situation as a choice between accepting an irreversible takeover of the game's biggest competitions or standing against what they describe as rule by intimidation.
