Ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will serve as the final major tournament for the France coaching duo, head coach Didier Deschamps shared a heartfelt message with his long-time assistant, Guy Stephan. In a documentary for beIN Sports, Deschamps reflected on their professional partnership, which has spanned since 2009.
In his letter, Deschamps highlighted the depth of their collaboration: "Offering you this role remains certainly one of the best decisions I have had to make in my career." The manager noted that their mutual understanding has reached a point where words are often unnecessary, and a single look is enough to communicate.
Stephan, visibly moved by the gesture, remarked: "I rarely show my feelings, but I have to wipe away tears now." Beyond their shared journey with the national team, the two also navigated challenging times together at Marseille, where their conviction and shared values remained steadfast throughout their tenure.
The partnership, which solidified upon their arrival in the national set-up in 2012, is now focused on achieving their ultimate goal at the upcoming tournament in the United States. Deschamps expressed his pride in their shared path and his determination to succeed in the final challenge, with the World Cup final scheduled for July 19.
