Midfielder Denise O'Sullivan, Liverpool's record signing, is expected to leave the club just six months after her arrival. The Republic of Ireland international joined the Reds in January for a fee of £300,000 and has made 13 appearances, becoming a standout performer under manager Gareth Taylor.
Reports indicate that O'Sullivan is seeking a return to the United States, where she previously spent nine seasons with North Carolina Courage. Gotham FC are considered the favourites to secure her services, with the deal potentially structured as an initial one-year loan with an obligation-to-buy clause.
The decision is understood to be personal, despite her impact in helping the team reach the Women's FA Cup semi-finals. Liverpool are currently in positive discussions with both the player and Gotham FC and expect to receive a significant fee for the 32-year-old's departure.
This exit, coupled with the inability to make goalkeeper Jennifer Falk's loan move permanent, represents a setback for Liverpool's summer rebuild plans following a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
