USWNT and Gotham FC midfielder Rose Lavelle suffers head injury

U.S. women's national team and Gotham FC midfielder Rose Lavelle was forced off the pitch during Sunday's NWSL match against Angel City. The incident occurred around the 30-minute mark when Lavelle collided with an opponent, causing her to fall and strike her head on the turf.

Medical staff evaluated the midfielder for several minutes. She eventually walked off the field under her own power but went directly to the locker room for further assessment.

Following the match, Gotham FC interim head coach Shaun Harris stated he had no updates on Lavelle's condition. The club confirmed she is being evaluated for a head injury, though the severity of the issue remains undisclosed.

The potential absence of Lavelle presents a challenge for Gotham FC as they look to maintain their position at the top of the league standings. The team is already dealing with significant injury issues, including the loss of defender Emily Sonnett, who was ruled out for the season last month due to a ruptured patellar tendon.

Gotham FC is currently seven points clear of the Washington Spirit and Portland Thorns. The club is scheduled to face Portland on Friday, August 28. Rose Lavelle and the USWNT are not scheduled to return to action until their friendlies against Spain in October.
