The Football Association has officially charged Chelsea with misconduct following an investigation into events during their FA Cup third-round victory over Charlton Athletic four months ago.
According to the FA, the club failed to control its supporters during the fixture. The governing body alleged that around the 56th minute of the match, spectators acted in an improper and abusive way, specifically referencing religion or belief. The governing body's decision follows a detailed review of matchday reports submitted by officials and stadium security.
The match was particularly notable as it served as the managerial debut for Liam Rosenior at Charlton. While the game resulted in a clinical 5-1 win for the Blues, the celebrations have been overshadowed by the disciplinary action. The FA statement clarified the nature of the charge, noting a failure to prevent supporters from engaging in offensive conduct.
