Eva Carneiro hits back at Mourinho and Terry over 2015 controversy

Former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro has publicly hit back at Jose Mourinho and John Terry following their appearance in the new Netflix documentary 'Mourinho'. The pair revisited the infamous 2015 incident that ultimately ended Carneiro’s tenure at Stamford Bridge.

The dispute stems from an August 2015 match against Swansea, where Carneiro and head physio Jon Fearn entered the pitch to treat Eden Hazard during injury time. Because the Blues were already down to ten men, the intervention left the side with nine players on the field, triggering a public outburst from Mourinho.

In the documentary, Mourinho maintains that the medical staff were «impulsive and naive,» claiming he knew the player was not seriously injured. John Terry supported this view, stating that there was an «unwritten agreement» within the squad that players would only receive treatment if the injury was extremely severe.

Carneiro, however, dismissed these claims on social media. Addressing Terry’s comments about dressing-room understanding, she wrote: «We are bound by a medico-legal code of conduct. Genuinely it would be healthy for John Terry to learn the rules of the game. It’s been long enough mate.»

Carneiro clarified that her actions were dictated strictly by referee Michael Oliver and the player’s own request for assistance. She pointed to guidelines from the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine, which state that a medical team has an «absolute duty of care» to attend when requested by a referee, regardless of the game’s tactical context.
