Burnley are progressing in talks to appoint Genk head coach Nicky Hayen to fill their managerial vacancy. The 45-year-old has emerged as the primary target for the Clarets following the departure of Scott Parker by mutual consent in April.
Discussions with Genk are ongoing, though the deal has not yet been finalized. Hayen previously managed Welsh side Haverfordwest County and later Club Brugge, before moving to Genk, where he led the side to a seventh-placed finish but missed out on European qualification.
Burnley had previously pursued Wales national team boss Craig Bellamy, but that move failed due to disagreements over backroom staff appointments. Former Wolves manager Rob Edwards is also understood to have declined an approach from the club.
This search for a new manager is a priority for the Turf Moor side as they prepare for life back in the Championship after finishing 19th in the Premier League last season. The club is scheduled to head to the United States for pre-season friendlies against FC Cincinnati, Columbus Crew, and Real Salt Lake.
