Lukas Podolski, a World Cup winner and fan-favourite, has officially retired from professional football at the age of 40. The German legend announced his decision on Friday via Instagram.
The veteran concluded his playing days at his youth club, Gornik Zabrze. He captained the side to a Polish Cup title and, as the current owner of the club, his decision to hang up his boots was widely expected by supporters.
Throughout his decorated career, Podolski featured for several high-profile clubs, including FC Koeln, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Inter, and Galatasaray.
