Andrés Guardado and Rafa Márquez face their 7-0 ghosts against Chile 10 years later
Ten years after the painful defeat, fate brings Andrés Guardado and Rafael Márquez back to face 'La Roja' in new roles.

Ten years have passed since that memorable night at the Copa América Centenario, where the Mexican national team suffered a crushing 0-7 defeat against Chile. For many players of that era, including Andrés Guardado, that experience remains one of the most difficult to overcome.
Today, fate brings Guardado and Rafael Márquez back to face the Chilean team, but in very different circumstances. Once leaders on the pitch, they now lead the 'Tricolor' coaching staff: Márquez as head coach and Guardado as his assistant.
I haven't wanted to watch it again. The little I did see was during the analysis we did when we were with the National Team, and Osorio showed us what we did wrong and what we did right... we did many things wrong, but the 7-0 is also deceptive. Andrés Guardado
This match is viewed as an opportunity to turn the page. The former players are now focused on building a new project aimed at preparing the team for the World Cup. Of the starting eleven that played a decade ago, only Hirving Lozano remains in the current squad, though he will not be able to participate due to injury.
While that historic rout is now in the past, every encounter with 'La Roja' inevitably brings back memories of that night in Santa Clara. Mexico is now attempting to write a different story under the guidance of Márquez and Guardado.
