Uruguay begins World Cup prep with injury concerns over Arrascaeta

The Uruguayan national team held its first training session in Mexico, with Arrascaeta and three other key players working separately from the group.

The Uruguay national team has officially begun its World Cup preparations in Mayakoba, Mexico. While the team held its first training session on Wednesday, the physical condition of midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta remains a primary concern for the coaching staff.

The Flamengo player did not participate in the field session, remaining indoors for muscle strengthening work as he recovers from a right calf injury. To assist in his treatment, the Uruguayan federation has brought in Flamengo physiotherapist Laniyan Neves.

Arrascaeta was not the only absence during the on-pitch training. Defenders Ronald Araujo and Jose Maria Gimenez, along with midfielder Federico Valverde, also stayed in the gym for physical work instead of joining the rest of the squad on the grass.

Uruguay is drawn in Group H alongside Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde, and Spain. Their tournament campaign kicks off on June 15 against Saudi Arabia at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
