Manchester United have suffered a significant setback in their search for a new left-back after Newcastle United emphatically blocked a move for Lewis Hall. The Red Devils recently submitted a formal enquiry for the 21-year-old, but the Magpies made it clear that the defender is not available for transfer this summer.
Newcastle view Hall as an indispensable part of head coach Matthias Jaissle’s tactical vision. Despite persistent rumours of a £60 million valuation, the club is currently refusing to engage in any price discussions. With Newcastle themselves in the market for additional full-back options, they view the youngster as a cornerstone of their squad who cannot be replaced.
Reports suggest that any serious negotiation would likely require a fee exceeding the £62 million record for a left-back, a mark currently held by the Marc Cucurella transfer from 2022. Having received this firm stance, United have been forced to reconsider their strategy.
With the path to signing Hall effectively closed, the club is now pivoting to other targets. Fulham’s United States international Antonee Robinson has emerged as the primary alternative.
