Former Real Madrid and Liverpool striker Michael Owen has offered his perspective on the current atmosphere within the Madrid dressing room and the feasibility of a potential move for Kylian Mbappe.
Addressing recent reports of internal tension at the Bernabeu, Owen played down the severity of the situation. He suggested that friction is a natural byproduct of working with highly competitive individuals who are accustomed to winning. He drew on his own experiences during his time in the Premier League to contextualize the incidents.
When I was at Liverpool or Manchester United, the amount of fights we had to stop, or that nearly happened, was huge. That happens almost every week. Michael Owen
Regarding the prospect of Mbappe joining Liverpool, Owen was dismissive of the idea from a financial standpoint. He argued that very few clubs could afford the Frenchman without completely shattering their financial structure. Furthermore, he pointed out that Liverpool’s current attacking setup, which includes players like Isak and Ekitike, would make integrating a player of Mbappe’s stature and ego a significant challenge.
Owen concluded by comparing Mbappe to Mohamed Salah, noting that elite players often possess a different mindset that requires careful management, a trade-off that is necessary to maintain a high level of performance.
