The Mexican Football Federation and MexTour organizers are preparing a special ceremony to recognize Guillermo Ochoa. The tribute will take place this Tuesday, October 6, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum just before kickoff against Chile.
The choice of opponent is particularly poignant, as this match coincides with the 10th anniversary of the historic 7-0 defeat Mexico suffered against Chile in the 2016 Copa America, a game in which Ochoa started in goal.
This marks the second major tribute for the goalkeeper during this cycle. During the 2026 World Cup, Ochoa received a special farewell at Estadio Banorte, where he entered as a substitute, was handed the captain's armband, and received a standing ovation from the fans.
The tribute comes at a difficult time for the national team. Under head coach Rafael Marquez, Mexico has struggled to find form during the current FIFA window, drawing with Colombia and Peru before suffering a 3-0 loss to the United States, leading to growing frustration from supporters.
