Marie Müller shines on DFB debut as Germany secures World Cup spot
Marie Müller scored in her international debut for Germany, helping the team secure qualification for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil with a 2-0 win over Norway.
Marie Müller has emerged as a bright new talent for the Germany women's national team. In her international debut, the full-back scored the opening goal in a 2-0 victory against Norway, a result that officially booked Germany’s ticket to the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
This achievement is particularly significant for Müller following a challenging period of recovery. Earlier in 2025, while playing for US club Portland Thorns, she was on the verge of a national team call-up before suffering a cruciate ligament tear during training. The former SC Freiburg player noted that playing for the national side had been her lifelong dream, one she remained committed to even during her lengthy layoff.
Head coach Christian Wück was full of praise for his new addition:
She has confirmed our expectations. She still has enormous potential in this crucial position. Off the pitch she's cautious, but on it she's the opposite: she demands the ball, positions herself intelligently and shows outstanding technique. Christian Wück
Müller stepped into the starting lineup as a replacement for captain Giulia Gwinn, who was sidelined by injury. While Müller expressed her honor at wearing the No. 7 jersey, she remains focused on the team's collective goal and looks forward to the captain's eventual return.
