Ahead of the 2026 World Cup, Argentina captain Lionel Messi has been granted special accommodation arrangements. The 38-year-old Inter Miami forward will stay in a private room for the duration of the tournament, while the rest of the squad share rooms. His room is located conveniently next to close friends Rodrigo De Paul and Nicolas Otamendi.
This arrangement continues a tradition established after the retirement of former roommate Sergio Aguero. Messi also requested to room alone during the successful 2022 campaign, a preference he maintains as Argentina prepare to defend their global crown.
Alongside these arrangements, head coach Lionel Scaloni is carefully managing the team's fitness. Messi recently underwent individual training sessions to address muscle fatigue in his left hamstring following his club commitments. The staff remains cautious but optimistic about his condition as the tournament approaches.
Argentina have been drawn in Group J alongside Algeria, Austria, and Jordan. While there have been minor fitness concerns for several players, the return of Julian Alvarez and Cristian Romero to full fitness provides a significant boost for the reigning champions.
