A record-breaking crowd of 63,094 packed into Soldier Field on Wednesday night to witness a star-studded clash between Chicago Fire and Inter Miami. The match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, delivered on its billing as two of Europe's greatest legends faced off on the pitch.
Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring for the Fire just 10 minutes into the game, executing a trademark acrobatic finish that ignited the home crowd. However, Inter Miami clawed their way back after the interval. In the 55th minute, former Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro powered home a header from a precise corner kick delivered by Lionel Messi.
With this assist, Messi reached 13 for the campaign, placing him at the top of the league's assist charts. More significantly, the Argentine became the first player in MLS history to record 30 or more goal contributions in three separate seasons, further cementing his impact on the league. The visitors' defensive resilience was tested throughout, but Chicago goalkeeper Chris Brady proved vital, producing six saves to deny Miami a winner.
The result leaves both clubs reflecting on missed opportunities, particularly with league leaders Nashville SC dropping points earlier in the day. Inter Miami remain in second place, nine points adrift of the leaders as they look to build momentum for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, Chicago Fire turn their attention to a critical weekend showdown against the New England Revolution, a match that could see them climb into third place.
