Matthias Jaissle questions booking compared to rival managers

Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has questioned the fairness of the yellow card he received for his conduct on the touchline. During last week's 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, referee Rob Jones cautioned the manager in the 70th minute for repeatedly straying outside his technical area.

Jaissle, who joined from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli last month, argued that his actions were simply an emotional way to support his team. He expressed disappointment at being booked for stepping just 20cm outside the box, suggesting that other managers are not treated with the same level of strictness.

Jaissle remains the only manager to have been cautioned in the Premier League this season for technical area infractions. A new charter on participant behavior was introduced by governing bodies in 2023, stipulating that coaching staff must remain within their designated area throughout the match.
