Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed that right-back Kieran Trippier sustained a knee ligament injury during his league debut for the club. The 35-year-old, who joined on a free transfer in June, picked up a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury in his left knee during Friday's 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers.

The club expects Trippier to be sidelined for a number of weeks. This comes as a blow to the squad shortly after the season got underway.

Meanwhile, fellow defender Yerson Mosquera is also set for a spell on the sidelines. The 25-year-old sustained a slight tear in his ankle ligaments during the same match and is expected to miss several weeks of action.

In more positive news, Wolves director of performance Phil Hayward provided an update on winger Rafiki Said. After suffering a high-grade MCL injury last month, the player has now removed his brace and recent scans show he is heading in the right direction. Additionally, goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is close to full fitness, while midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde is expected to return to training in the coming weeks.
