Tottenham midfielder Xavi Simons has opened up about his arduous recovery journey after suffering an ACL injury in a match against Wolverhampton. The injury, sustained during the 34th round of the Premier League, sidelined the 23-year-old until the end of 2026 and forced him to miss the World Cup.
Recalling the moment of the injury, the Dutchman described the sensation of his knee locking up during a routine movement. He admitted that the initial days were the hardest of his life, marked by severe pain, nausea, and the mental burden of being unable to help his team during a critical period of the season.
I couldn't sleep. I didn't eat anything for a week. I was in so much pain, I felt sick, I felt dizzy. It was terrible. Xavi Simons
Support from his family was crucial in shifting his mindset. After a candid conversation with his mother, Simons began to accept his situation and focus entirely on rehabilitation. He is currently pleased with his progress and grateful for the support received from the club's medical staff and coaching team.
Looking ahead, Simons remains motivated. His goal remains clear: to return to the pitch stronger, help Tottenham reach its potential, and ultimately win trophies.
